DC-Baltimore Perl Workshop

DC & Baltimore perl mongers

If you aren't familiar with Perl, it's a programming language supported by a very dedicated global community of programmers. When two local groups — the DC and Baltimore Perl Mongers — kicked off their first annual workshop, they needed new branding that brought their cities together. But, unlike a typical conference, overly-slick marketing just didn't fit the Perl ethos. Instead, they needed an emblem that was endlessly reusable and instantly recognizable.

I decided to design a tongue-in-cheek take on an official seal. The eagle and crab represent the respective cities of Washington and Baltimore, while the pearl onion at their center is the very real, very 'punny' symbol for Perl itself. As for history, what could be more appropriate than an old-fashioned coffee mug and wired mouse?
