Jacksonville, a Safe Haven for Pets

PETSMART CHARITIES

PetSmart Charities came to me with another fun animation project, this time sharing their success saving cats and dogs in Jacksonville, Florida through an interactive graphic. Together, we decided to tell the story of one dog and one cat, personalizing the impressive but potentially dispassionate aggregate data on the program.

While looking for a way to depict some of the sadder parts of the story — such as the injured dog, Flora — I was inspired by the friendly illustration style of Little Golden Books. Naturally, creating an interactive graphic that felt handmade and classic despite being digital called for actually making some things by hand, including every paper texture and photoshop brush used. I also made quite a few sketches, so check them out in the sketchbook!
